Scope and Contents

"The Churches and Communities of Staten Island, N.Y.," the report of a study of the religious and social conditions in Staten Island, followed by correspondence and reports concerning the status and possible continued work of the former YWCA of Suffolk County, and documents concerning the administration, program and development of associations in Syracuse and Tonawanda, New York. Documents are arranged alphabetically by city or town with further topical and form designations on the microfilm for Syracuse and Tonawandas. The administration and development of the Syracuse and Tonawandas associations is documented in basic standards reports, national certification documents, constitutions, and bylaws. Visitation reports include program descriptions, reports of challenges and successes, and discussion of personnel and management need. Additional material includes general correspondence and reports concerning association program, policies, operations, and relationships to the YMCA.

This collection is open for use without restriction beyond the standard terms and conditions of Smith College Special Collections.

However, by agreement with the YWCA of the U.S.A., microdexes known to contain financial records or personal health information (usually on job applications) were not digitized and/or not published in our online repository as part of the CLIR Digitizing Hidden Collections grant. These microdexes may still be accessed on the original microfilm, and digital files may be made available to individual researchers upon request.
