Scope and Contents

The Eleanor Thayer papers consist of a small amount of correspondence (1942-63), addresses, relating to her work at the Perkins School for the Blind; course outlines, examples of braille music, concert programs, and workshop material document her role in developing music curriculum at Perkins. Also included are publications of the International Conference of Educators of Blind Youth and the American Association of Instructors of the Blind; Smith College memorabilia; and newspaper clippings.

Biographical / Historical

Eleanor Wiley Thayer was born in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1906. She graduated from Smith College in 1929, then taught music at Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, Mass., a position she held from 1929 to 1971. She died in 1990.
