Scope and Contents

The Voters for Choice records contain correspondence; photographs related to the pro-choice movement, fundraising, political activism; public relations materials; press releases; reports; conference materials; financial information; miscellaneous printed material; video and audio tapes of campaign ads, radio spots, interviews, debates, etc.. Also included are records of the Board of Directors pertaining to the organization's purpose (the preservation of a woman's right to choose), by way of media campaigns and endorsing pro-choice candidates for political office. There is also a small amount of personal material generated by Kristina Kiehl.

Biographical / Historical

Co-founded in 1979 by Gloria Steinem and Kristina Kiehl, Voters for Choice is the nation's largest independent non-partisan action committee. It is committed to maintaining safe, legal and accessible abortion services for all women, regardless of geographical location, age or economic status. Based in Washington, D.C., it's main agenda is to elect candidates who support a woman's right to make decisions regarding abortion, contraception, and child-bearing without government interference.

Records document the organization's mission to preserve abortion rights by way of media campaigns and endorsing pro-choice candidates for political office.
