Scope and Contents

Papers include writings, notes, and printed material on education, sex-bias in testing, feminist women and a variety of topics, mostly from the early 1980s. Also included are several Smith College class of 1956 25th Reunion (1981) photographs. Rosser's work in the late 1980s and 1990s on sex-bias in testing is also well documented.

Also included are promotional materials spanning 4 decades of Rosser's art career.

Biographical / Historical

Phyllis Fewster Rosser was born 30 Dec 1934. Graduated from Smith College in 1956. Attended the New York School of Interior Design, 1957, and worked as an interior designer for five years. After third child was born in 1972, became an apprentice at Ms. magazine with Smith College classmate Gloria Steinem. Worked as freelance writer and contributing editor to Ms. (1973-1988). Director of the Equality in Testing Project (1987- ), which researches sex bias in standardized tests. Co-chair of the Sex-Bias Committee for the National Center for Fair and Open Testing (1986-1987).
