Biographical / Historical

The Pennyroyal Press was established in 1976 by Barry Moser to publish his illustrated books. In 1978, Moser, Harold P. McGrath, Jeffrey P. Dwyer, John Lancaster, Ruth Mortimer, and John Locke established the Hampshire Typothetae in Northampton, Massachusetts, later in West Hatfield, Massachusetts. This business was established using letterpress printing equipment that Leonard Baskin had used at his Gehenna Press. McGrath had been Baskin’s printer. The Typothetae operated until 1986 when the equipment was sold to Alan James Robinson of Easthampton. McGrath worked for Robinson until shortly before his death in 2000.
