The records contain minutes, photographs, newspaper clippings, meeting minutes, membership directories, and reunion materials documenting the Out But Not Down Club's activities.
This collection contains the personal and professional papers of Ruth Mortimer, a Smith College Alumnae (class of 1953) and a rare book librarian in the Smith College Library from 1975 to her death in 1994. Of particular note, the collection includes Mortimer's writings, her long correspondence with Mary Ellen Chase and playwright Maggie Edson, and papers relating to her work with the Friends of the Smith College Library.
Workers Empowering Workers in Northampton (WE WIN) was an organizing committee at Smith College which worked to unionize Smith clerical and administrative staff. The collection consists of material from WE WIN’s 1993 unsuccessful unionization campaign. Flyers, pamphlets, and other informational publications; surveys and assessments of Smith employees; and correspondence from allies, detractors, and Smith administration feature prominently.
