The collection contains administrative and office files for the Office of the Dean of the College, as well as files relating to programs and offices overseen by the Dean of the College. Materials include general office files and correspondence, committee records, program and event records, materials from the Office of Multicultural Affairs and its programs, and Administrative Board records.

This collection is open for use with following restrictions on access:
Many boxes are partially or fully restricted, primarily due to the presence of student records, which are restricted until death of the student, which if unknown is presumed 100 years after creation of the record.
See series-level access notes for information on what boxes are restricted. Restricted boxes must be screened by an archivist before being used by researchers. Please contact the archives a minimum of two weeks in advance of your visit for access.

Smith College retains copyright of materials created as part of its business operations; however, copyright in other items in this collection may be held by their respective creators. For reproductions of materials that are governed by fair use as defined under U. S. Copyright Law, no permission to cite or publish is required. For instances which may regard materials in the collection not created by Smith College, researchers are responsible for determining who may hold materials' copyrights and obtaining approval from them. Researchers do not need anything further from Smith College Special Collections to move forward with their use.

These records include administrative files generated by the office of the Dean of the College, as well as materials relating to offices and programs overseen by the Dean of the College.

Between September 2022 and February 2023, Smith College Special Collections renumbered many boxes to eliminate duplicate numbers within collections in order to improve researcher experience. A full crosswalk of old to new numbers is available.
