Abortion collection
Primarily printed materials, plus legislative records, memorabilia, and audiovisual materials documenting the efforts of both the pro-life and pro-choice movements. The Legal status section documents specific court cases, with an emphasis on the Roe v. Wade case (1973). Organizations represented include the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) and the Women's National Abortion Action Coalition (WONAAC).
Alexander C. Sanger papers
The Alexander C. Sanger papers document Alexander Sanger's work as President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of New York City, and his involvement in Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the International Planned Parenthood Federation, and the general struggle for reproductive rights in the U.S. and abroad. Kristina Kiehl is an organizer in the women's movement. Her papers consist of Partisan Project pamphlets, several pro-Kerry/anti-Bush fliers, a poster signed by Gloria Steinem, a packet of logistical information for a Gloria Steinem tour, personal and professional papers (much related to Kiehl's work with Voters for Choice), material related to her good friends and colleagues Wilma Mankiller and Gloria Steinem, A/V material, memorabilia, external hard drives, and four CD-Roms.
Lawrence Lader papers
Lawrence Lader (1919-2006) was a birth control and abortion-rights activist and author. Among many other actions, he co-founded NARAL Pro-Choice America with Betty Friedan and others, and was active in the lawsuits that made RU-486 legal in the United States in 2000. This collection documents his work as an author and activist for women's reproductive rights, including safe and legal abortion.
