Jordan: Aqabat Jaber refugee camp, circa 1961-1998
The World YWCA center in the Aqabat Jaber refugee camp provides the women and girls living in the refugee camp with vocational guidance, basic education, nourishment, recreation and a place to belong. Photographs include images of the Queen Mother of Jordan and the Archbishop of Canterbury visiting the center, special mother's day pageants, women and girls participating in classes and recreation activities.
Jordan: Creche figures, circa 1958-1964
Photographs of young women's Christian association members in Jordan refugee camps making figurines for Christmas creches. The young girls come to YWCA centers to learn the craft and earn money increasing their chances to reach sefl support. Included are photographs of sewing classes, creche figures and a visit by Geoffrey F. Fisher, Archbishop of Canterbury.
