Ruth Mortimer papers
This collection contains the personal and professional papers of Ruth Mortimer, a Smith College Alumnae (class of 1953) and a rare book librarian in the Smith College Library from 1975 to her death in 1994. Of particular note, the collection includes Mortimer's writings, her long correspondence with Mary Ellen Chase and playwright Maggie Edson, and papers relating to her work with the Friends of the Smith College Library.
Ruth Pierson Churchill papers
Smith graduate and WWI relief worker. The bulk of the papers documents her relief work for the Foreign Missions Board of the Methodist Church in France, during World War I. Papers include photographs, a scrapbook, postcards, news clippings, and an outline of Church's service in France. Also included is correspondence between Churchill and her family, friends, and U.S. servicemen.
Sally Hayes Plaut papers
Women's Army Corps volunteer, World War II; Cryptographer. Papers include correspondence, memorabilia, and a scrapbook (with photographs) documenting Plaut's war work during World War II.
Sarah Scudder Lyon papers
YWCA executive. Papers are primarily related to her work in the Foreign Division of the Young Women's Christian Association of the U.S.A., 1923-1944. Professor of comparative religion; Founder, spiritual retreat Temenos, Shutesbury, MA. Included in the collection are scrapbooks from Japan and the coal mining town of Bradley, Ohio. Correspondence with family members provides insight into her personal and spiritual development. Havens' papers include dairies; Smith College student papers; published articles; teaching materials; and the papers of her mother, Teresina Peck Rowell.
Theater collection
The collection documents the work of women in the performing arts, especially American actresses, women playwrights, and dancers. There are biographical files on individuals; articles and dissertations; several contemporary plays by women; and printed material on women filmmakers and feminist theater.
